Redundant Control of a Semi-Industrial Multivariable Hydraulic System, by Means of a Centralized Controller and an Industrial CIP Network Based on Industrial Ethernet
Abstract:
This research validates the control and the monitoring of a semi-industrial multivariable plant, through a redundant system, employing a centralized control based on the use of the Modbus TCP protocol and a distributed control based on a PLC Network with an Industrial Ethernet architecture. The selection of the plant control is carried out by changing the state of a relay bank, which allows the information of the sensor and the actuator variables to be transferred to the assigned controller. With the first condition of the selector, the semi-industrial plant is controlled with Allen Bradley equipment based on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) standard by using the Consumer/Producer model, with two Logix L61 Control controllers and with a Panel View Plus 1000 HMI for monitoring. With the second selection, the semi-industrial plant will be controlled with Siemens equipment, based on the Modbus TCP/IP Protocol, by using the MB_Client and Mb Server functions, and with a Red Lion HMI Display for Monitoring. The functionality provided by the redundant control of the multivariable plant has allowed detecting failures in its control systems, improving reliability by ensuring that data reaches its destination through multiple paths, providing operational continuity without interruptions, constant monitoring of the system's status. This type of testing will allow integrating with advanced Industry 4.0 technologies, including industrial IoT, predictive maintenance, and cloud data analytics.
