Modeling and Design of the Controller of a Virtual Level Control Plant
Abstract:
This research aims to design and model a controller for a virtual level control plant by using the S7-1200 PLC. This system seeks to keep the liquid level within a desired range, compensating for disturbances and variations present in the process by using PID controllers. The development has begun with the modeling of a virtual plant and the selection of two methods for the calculation of the controller constants: PID Tuner and manual calculations. These constants have been entered into the PID_COMPACT block, integrated with the Ladder programming and monitored by using an HMI interface. The methodology has included validation of the control through simulations in Factory IO and the acquisition of processed data in MATLAB in order to optimize the efficiency of the system. The results have highlighted the stability and the ability of the system to adjust the set point against external disturbances, achieving optimal behavior in SISO systems. In addition, tools such as Factory I/O and TIA Portal have proved to be fundamental in the modeling of industrial processes in virtual environments, underlining their importance for technical and professional training.
