Practical IIoT Implementation by Integrating the Siemens LOGO PLC with AWS Using LWE 1.2

Abstract:

This article describes the practical implementation of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications by integrating the Siemens LOGO V8.4 PLC with Amazon Web Services (AWS) using Logo Web Editor (LWE) V1.2. In the context of Industry 4.0, the configuration and deployment of a SCADA system in the cloud is detailed, highlighting the challenges and solutions implemented. The AWS European Region (eu-central-1) was selected to optimize latency and throughput, and custom access policies were developed due to the deprecation of previous services such as AWSElasticBeanstalkFullAccess. In addition, Tomcat updates have been adapted to ensure compatibility with existing AWS infrastructure. The results include the successful implementation of a remotely accessible SCADA-HMI interface, enabling real-time monitoring and control of digital and analog variables. The evaluation of the system showed fast response times, essential for real-time applications. The study also lays the groundwork for future IIoT applications, such as the development of custom APIs, contributing to the advancement of industrial automation in the digital age, and demonstrating how the integration of cloud technologies can improve operational efficiency in industrial environments.
