A general cavity theory for photon beams
Abstract:
Kearsley's general cavity theory for photons beams is generalized by regarding electron backscattering not only on the interfaces between medium and detector (cavity) but on each of the planes within the cavity. The new model does not introduce any additional parameter. The proposed model is computed using two approximations. Although the final expression differs in form, numerically is so similar to Kearley's one (specifically the weight factors d1 and d2). It is therefore concluded that Kearsley theory does not need any improvement and represent the general expression for cavity theory for photon beams. The relative bad agreement of Kearsley's theory in fitting the experimental data for MV photons energy beams, and very mismatched materials of medium and cavity, is therefore due to other parameters poorly known involved within the model.
