Potential of Stem Cells Therapy in Periodontal Regeneration
Abstract:
Periodontitis is an inflammatory pathological condition triggered by the imbalance between the oral microbiome and the host immune response affecting the supporting tissues of teeth. In recent years, a number of technologies had emerged providing novel therapeutic approaches for periodontal hard and soft tissue reconstruction including stem cell-based therapy. The present chapter presents a comprehensive overview of the source, unique characteristics, delivery methods, protocols for cell culture/transplantation, potential therapeutic applications and challenges of stem cells therapy in periodontal regeneration.
