Teleworking and work stress among university teachers


Abstract:

The main objective of this research was to analyze the influence of teleworking on the occupational stress of university professors in the city of Guayaquil. The implications of the results were interpreted to provide HEI authorities with information that will allow them to make decisions that contribute to the fulfillment of academic and administrative activities in higher education institutions. The methodology used in this research was the deductive method through a quantitative approach and descriptive correlational scope. The sample included full-time university professors at the undergraduate level from the three universities with the largest number of professors in the city of Guayaquil: Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil, Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) and Universidad de Guayaquil. A descriptive correlational analysis was applied, which allowed the phenomenon to be estimated and statistically analyzed, where relationships between different constructs are postulated. The study showed that work stress has a negative and significant relationship with several key dimensions of university faculty teleworking, such as job security, job flexibility, and job satisfaction. It concludes that this finding highlights how work stress can limit faculty members’ ability to manage their schedules and tasks independently, contributing to a cycle of increased stress and decreased job satisfaction.
