Simulation and Analysis of the Energy Potential of Wave Energy through the oscillating water column device in Esmeraldas-Atacames Using MATLAB Simulink
Abstract:
This study analyzes the energy potential of wave energy in the coastal region of Esmeraldas-Atacames, Ecuador, using MATLAB Simulink to model and simulate an Oscillating Water Column (OWC). Simulations were carried out at 30 geographic points along the coast to determine optimal conditions that maximize electricity generation. The results highlight that the most efficient point is N 4 with coordinate "0.873003, -79.854254", identified after evaluating factors such as the intensity of the waves and the stability of the system, it presents the greatest energy potential for the region. This not only confirms the technical feasibility of implementing wave energy systems in Esmeraldas-Atacames, but also highlights the opportunity to diversify the country's energy matrix through renewable sources. Additionally, the study provides a basis for future projects that contribute to the energy sustainability and economic development of coastal communities in Ecuador.
