Advantages of the educational model based on competencies for the quality of higher medical education

Abstract:

Introduction: Higher education has the responsibility of preparing university students so that when they graduate, they do so with all the necessary tools to guarantee adequate professional performance. There are different educational models; However, the competency-based model facilitates learning that focuses on the consolidation of the skills and abilities necessary for subsequent professional performance. Objective: Expose the advantages offered by the implementation of the competency-based educational model in improving the quality of higher medical education. Development: The advantages offered by the educational model in improving the quality of the teaching-learning process in higher medical education are analyzed, focused on the acquisition and consolidation of the skills and abilities that are necessary for the exercise of the profession. The elements that allow the implementation and consolidation of the competency-based educational model are also presented. Conclusions: The educational model based on competence offers advantages that favor the quality of the educational teaching process; They highlight the active participation and leadership of the process by students, as well as the acquisition of skills, abilities and competencies that enhance future professional development.
