Low Back Pain on YouTube: Quality and Educational Value
Abstract:
The consumption of information on social media has become a prevalent behavior among users with orthopedic conditions, who leverage the apomediation effect of platforms to fulfill their informational needs, often neglecting associated risks. In this context, the aim of this research was to evaluate the quality and educational value of content related to lower back pain in Spanish, as disseminated on YouTube. This assessment employed a content analysis methodology encoded through three previously validated ad hoc instruments. A descriptive-evaluative study was conducted on a final sample of 70 videos. The results indicate that the scrutinized information demonstrates low educational value, exhibits deficiencies in technical educational design, lacks scientific precision and message clarity, and reveals diminished epistemological authority among content creators. These factors contribute to the potential generation of confusion, misinterpretation, and dissemination of inappropriate information pertaining to the management of lower back pain.
