Application of crispr-cas to treat infections caused by anti-biotic-resistant bacteria

Abstract:

This literature review integrates information from publications focused on the application of CRISPR-CAS-based systems for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. In addition, its inquiries about the applications of these techniques to eliminate antimicrobial resistance genes, virulence genes and bacterial plasmids. The cited studies indicate that the CRISPR-CAS system is capable of editing pathogenicity genes, antimicrobial resistance genes or selectively eliminating bacteria without affecting the microbiota. This demonstrates that CRISPR-CAS is viable for treating bacterial infections at the extracellular level even for those bacteria that are resistant to high-spectrum antimicrobials and intracellular infections to a lesser extent.
