Application of environmental chemical balance to define the hydraulic work of poorly-known marginal aquifers. A study case of Castril river alluvial aquifer
Abstract:
Water supply capacity was evaluated for the Castril river alluvial aquifer. The idea is to increase endowment of existing irrigation and urban supply in the zone with an additional volume of 4 hm3·year-1. The current endowment in the basin is from the upstream Portillo reservoir. The aquifer geometry and their hydraulic behaviour were also characterized. The aquifer water budget was calculated through chloride mass balance applied at the saturated zone. It is necessary to enlarge the volume realised from the Portillo reservoir to increase up to 80 mm·year-1 the rate of aquifer recharge in order to minimize the heavy pumping effects on the aquifer system.
