Application of nanofiltration as tertiary treatment in municipal wastewater treatment plants. Comparison with reverse osmosis

Abstract:

Water scarcity makes necessary wastewater reclamation and reuse. Sometimes, technologies driving to reduce the wastewater conductivity have to be implemented within the tertiary treatment, such as nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. In the present work these technologies are compared. Results were obtained by means of a laboratory pilot plant. The maximal operating pressures were 4 and 14,5 bar for nanofiltration and reverse osmosis, respectively. Direct nanofiltration reuse in the agriculture depends on the value of the parameter SAR (sodium adsorption ratio).
