A management model for integral sanitation in sectors with high complexity in their physical and social environment: Emphasis on solid waste

Abstract:

This paper present a case study carried out in one of Caracas' shantytowns; all of which present serious problems in terms of the provision of basic services for the municipalities which make up the capital city, thus making appropriate management models a necessity. The interaction between the institution responsible for solid waste collection and the municipality in question shows the need to design a strategy which includes a participative plan and social control. The analysis and discussion of this problem provides us with the opportunity of changing the main principles of the service management and to implement new strategies to guarantee sanitary conditions. These principles are responsibility and cooperation.
