Outline of Ecuador’s audiovisual production


Abstract:

The current audiovisual ecosystem is characterized by the migration from traditional consumption to online offerings and social networks. This research aims to develop a first outline of the audiovisual ecosystem in Ecuador, given the emerging importance of the creative industries. The research questions are: how is audiovisual broadcasting constituted; do social networks condition audiovisual consumption; are national companies in a position to compete with foreign companies; what strategy should be followed to strengthen the audiovisual industry; is it necessary to develop co-production agreements with digital platforms; and how can the audiovisual industry be promoted by universities? This is a descriptive enquiry, using quantitative and qualitative methodology. The instruments used are a survey and semi-structured interviews. It is concluded that the audiovisual context in Ecuador is one of opportunities, but subordinated to overcoming limitations in terms of training, internationalization and maturing of audiences.
