Towards a digital transformation: AMI as public policy in Ecuador

Abstract:

In recent years, media and information literacy (MIL) has become an essential social and educational aspect, providing citizens with the necessary skills to analyze and critically understand the information that reaches them, as well as to use countless media and platforms within the communication processes. In this sense, this research aims to evaluate and prioritize actions for the development of a Digital Transformation Public Policy through the IGO Model (Importance and Governance), consolidated as a strategic approach that precisely identifies the guidelines for effective decision making at the level of the media-digital field; this methodology is based on the realization of roundtables with teachers and communication professionals carried out in Ecuador. This includes the identification of key issues and sectors for the structure of a public policy aligned with the government's strategic objectives. In this way, a set of action strategies is established to be considered in the consolidation of a public policy that contemplates the promotion of training and professional development in MIL and the curricular integration of MIL principles to strengthen its understanding and dissemination at the social and educational levels.
