Nesting behaviour of Wilson's Plover Charadrius wilsonia cinnamominus along West coast of French Guiana
Abstract:
Nesting behaviour of Wilson's Plover Charadrius wilsonia cinnamominus along West coast of French Guiana. Wilson's plover Charadrius wilsonia cinnamomi-nus breeds in French Guiana, but only few data concerning its biology in this area are available. During the 2002 Kawana campaign (for the study and the protection of sea turtles), we established a permanent camp on two beaches: Ilako pabon'bo beach (N 04°52.763 W 52°21.552), from 3 May to 10 August 2002 and Organabo beach, from 2 July to 22 July 2002. We undertook a daily ornithological survey on these different sites. With our records, we are able to confirm C. w. cinnamominus is breeding along the French Guiana coast. Moreover, we have studied the breeding behaviour of this subspecies. A detailed study of three pairs was carried out. We compared our results with data available for C. w. wilsonia in North America.
