A method for the integral automation of continuous production enterprises

Abstract:

This paper describes a method for planning the automation and integration of systems in continuous production industries, such as refineries, electric power companies, and gas/oil production industries. The method defines and specifies the enterprise information architecture that integrates the information, decision, communication, and control systems that are required to support the production process. It can be applied at three different levels: enterprise level, plant level, and production unit level. The design of the method was based on domain architecture for enterprise modeling and integration, called the Reference Model for Integrated Automation. This model integrates the enterprise production process with its management and administrative processes, using the enterprise information systems. The main features of the method are its simplicity, its orientation to a particular industry domain, and its scope. This allows its users to model the enterprise at different decision levels, in an integral way.
