Archaeological survey of the qhapaq Ñan in the Sevilla-Nizag section towards a socio-cultural appreciation (Chimborazo, Ecuador)

Abstract:

As a result of the declaration of the Qhapaq Ñan or Main Andean Road as Cultural Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO (22 July 2014), survey projects and the study of the best preserved segments of the road in Ecuador were accelerated. This is the case for a more than 4 km segment that is described in this study and that is located between the communities of Sevilla and Nizag (Alausí) and is associated with an important site, Pumallacta. In this study the results of archaeological survey are presented, leaving the path open for future restoration, conservation and site invigoration development projects.
