Artificial Neural Networks for the design of solar collectors: An application on water heating in Ecuador
Abstract:
The increasing of pollution and demand of fossil fuels have made necessary to regard nontraditional energy mechanisms such as solar, wind energy, etc [1]. Researchers as Riffet et al.[2], Sumathy [3] have conducted studies on solar collector. They assessed experimentally the influence of the collector geometry, angle of inclination, etc., in order to improve the global efficiency of the system. On the other hand, Kalogirou and Bojic [4, 5] proposed numerical approaches based on Artificial Neural Networks (ANN)[6] so as to design solar devices. In Ecuador, the technology of water heating by means of flat plate solar collectors is disregarded in spite of the geographical position of the country. According to the issues raised, this project was developed to apply the ANN approach in order to analyze the influence of solar collector components in its thermal efficiency.
