A multimode laser diode noise analysis and its influence in an optoelectronic oscillator
Abstract:
Optoelectronic Oscillators (OEOs) were proposed by Yao and Maleki [1] in 1996. Thanks to their capabilities in generating high frequency low phase-noise microwave signals, OEOs find applications in optical and wireless communication, signal processing, sensors, metrology and radio astronomy [2]. Fig. 1 shows the basic OEO scheme which is composed by a pump laser (usually a Distributed Feedback Laser-DFB), and a feedback loop that includes an intensity modulator, an optical fiber delay line, a fast photo-detector (PD), a RF amplifier and a Radio Frequency Band-Pass Filter (RF-BPF)[3].
