Assessment of drought impact on soil water balance and agricultural potential of Bulgaria using simulation model wave
Abstract:
WAVE model is applied for assessment of long-term(30 years)drought impact on crop water use and maize productivity under the conditions of Calapica Experimental Field(Sought Bulgaria) after being adjusted and verified with local extensive soil-climate-plant dataset. Effect of drought is measured in terms of relative water deficit and relative yield losses probability curves. The assessments obtained on the pilot field are extrapolated to variable soil conditions by the technic of pedotransfer functions. Average seasonal soil water deficit under rainfed conditions is evaluated to be 33% for sandy loam and sandy clay loam, 42% for sand and 55% for clay soils that causes relative yield losses respectively 50, 55 and 65%.
