Assessment of morphological characteristics of the testes in bulls of breed Brown Swiss

Abstract:

In the province of Napo, canton Tena, there were analysed reproductive males of the breed Brown Swiss, aged between 9 and 24 months in the parishes Puerto Napo - Tena - Ecuador. The andrological characteristics were determined, obtaining as a result 50 males within the age range already mentioned; those which were later studied as regards physical condition, circumference of the scrotum, size and tone of the testicles; essential data for determining the efficiency of a reproductive male. According to some correlation tests of the variables age and testicular size, the samples follow a normal flow of testicular growth in relation to age, being acceptable under international standards. Evaluating the behavior of the scrotum circumference on the testicular tone, it was determined that there is not a relation, which shows that they are variables of individual function when choosing reproductive males. Relating the variables of testicular tone, testicular size, circumference of the scrotum and physical condition with age, statistics show that there is a significant relation between the variable age and the circumference of the scrotum, following a normal distribution, indicating that these variables are essential and really important when selecting reproductive males in the area.
