Association of ITPA Gene Polymorphisms


Abstract:

MATERIALS AND METHODS Study population. The cohort of patients in the present study is derived from a well-characterized cohort of 389 HIV/HCV-coinfected patients on active follow-up at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, Spain. All the patients consented to the provision of genetic material as part of their coinfection assessment. To be included in the study, all the patients had to be stable, either treated or untreated, with respect to HIV infection. Nonresponders to previous IFN-based therapies were not included in the study. Patients with chronic renal disease or creatinine clearance of50 ml/min, hemoglobin concentration of11. 5 g/dl, neutrophil count of 1,500/mm3, or platelet count of 70,000/mm3 at baseline were also excluded. Subjects who were hospitalized or had a frank cognitive impairment such as delirium or dementia on enrollment were not eligible.
