Association of arterial hypertension with sex in the population of a medical office
Abstract:
Arterial hypertension (AHT) is the systematic increase in blood pressure values of multifactorial and polygenic type, which represents a disease of high incidence and prevalence in the universal context. Therefore, any study framed in this line of research is current and important. Objective: The objective of this research was to demonstrate the association between hypertension and sex in patients of the Medical Clinic of the “Carlos Verdugo” Polyclinic, in the city of Matanzas, Cuba. Methods: It was an observational, retrospective, cross-sectional and analytical research, corresponding to the relational le-vel. The hypothesis was that there is an association between sex and the presence of hypertension. The Phi coefficient test (Φ) was used in a population of 628 patients attended at the “Carlos Verdugo” Polyclinic Medical Clinic. Results: There was a predominance of HT in the female sex (36.31%) compared to the male sex (28.17%). The Φ statistic evidenced a value of-.079, that is, a very weak negative relationship, but when its significance was analyzed, a value of,224 was perceived, considering that it was not statistically significant. Conclusions: It was concluded that there is no correlation between sex and the presence of AHT in the population studied.
