Atomic spectroscopy and the photon mass: Effects on the hydrogen ground-state

Abstract:

The effect due to the photon mass is explored in the hydrogen atom. Specifically, the ground-state energy of the hydrogen atom within Proca's electrodynamics is considered. The resulting correction term is compared with the experimental precision of the ground-state energy of the hydrogen atom. From this, the limit of 3 × 10−42g on the photon mass is obtained.
