Audiovisual format for citizen intervention in the media

Abstract:

The need to increase citizens’ participation in the media in order to achieve diversity and plurality motivated an educational project at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja to identify the manifestations of citizenship and design an audiovisual format for news programs that involves people. The research questions are: 1) What topics do the media include related to citizenship? 2) What format do citizens suggest? and, 3) What do young people think about the audiovisual essay resulting from the application of the action-research methodology that guides this intervention? The results show that it supports the formation of competencies and innovation. The manifestations of citizenship in Ecuadorian television are traditional in relation to Human Rights. Television news coverage does not keep pace with social demands. It remains a scheme to be replicated in other contexts and a contribution to community participation.
