A new method to form target cell monolayers and their use for the immunoadsorption of cytotoxic effector cells

Abstract:

A new method has been developed to form cell monolayers based on the presence of lectin receptors on different types of cells, permitting the formation of a confluent and stable monolayer after the addition of target cells to a monomolecular film of PHA. These cellular immunoadsorbents have been shown to be very effective for specific adsorption of cytotoxic lymphocytes. The most important advantages of this method are: (1) It broadens the range of cells that can form monolayers; (2) the cells forming the monolayers are strongly bound to the plates and are not released during the adsorption process; (3) binding of non-specific, non-cytotoxic cells is negligible and (4) the immunoadsorption removes between 80% and 100% of cytotoxic effector cells. © 1978.
