Abstract:

For the evaluation of the extraction method, tests were carried out on 24 fibre samples from a silk textile, previously dyed with D. coccus supplied by Kremer-Pigmente. Analyses were also undertaken on 40 red silk fibres from 15 historical textiles, from the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum (Lisbon, Portugal), Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (Lisbon, Portugal), and B&Y Bolour Gallery (Los Angeles, USA).
