Automated system for the separation of sitotroga cerealella eggs.

Abstract:

The project was carried out at the Quevedo State Technical University, “La María” campus. An automated system was developed for the separation of eggs in the mass rearing of pest insect parasitoids. It is made up of two important parts: the mechanical process with an electric motor and a gearbox geared to a horizontally positioned metal mesh cylinder for the task of separating eggs. The second part is electronic, a RaspBerry card is in charge of controlling all the operation and work of the equipment, programmed with the Python development environment, it automates the entire separation and collection process. 300 adult insects were used, the results were the optimization of time of 30 min (66.67%) and a number of eggs separated with less amount of residues, their weight was 1.7 g, while the manual of 1.87 g with a greater amount of waste and in longer time.
