Automatic Focus Calibration of Optical Microscope for Counting Blood Cells

Abstract:

Optical microscopes are fundamental tools for scientific studies used in observing and examining minute organisms or particles such as cells and bacteria. Optical microscopes are required to be manually calibrated to obtain a clear image of the specimen. Additionally, conventional microscopes do not have the ability to capture the image of the specimen. Customized microscope with automatic calibration using a simple robust auto-focusing algorithm was developed for digital microscopy. Normalized Variance Focus algorithm provides a clear image of the specimen which is saved and displayed on the GUI for further analysis and counting of blood samples.
