Autonomous learning. Its role in the development of specific competences in higher education


Abstract:

A cornerstone of an integral application of the competency approach is the conception of the need for binomial professional competences, that is to say; both types of competences-generic and specific-are indispensable for the training of professionals. However, autonomous learning has not been deeply debated regarding its influence on the development of specific competencies for a specific professional performance. This article discusses autonomous learning in higher education and its relation to the development of specific competences.
