B39 COPD EXACERBATIONS: PRECIPITATING FACTORS, PREVENTION, AND OUTCOME: Repeated Electronic Nose Analysis Of Exhaled Air Identifies Exacerbations Of COPD-Preliminary Data From …
Abstract:
Aim To test whether repeated breathprints analysis by multiple sensors in an eNose-platform can discriminate exacerbations from clinically stable episodes during prospective follow up of patients with COPD. Methods The present study was based on preliminary data obtained in a 2 years prospective trial in COPD patients (TEXACOLD Study). Patients included were> 45 years with a smoking history of> 10 pack years and a post-bronchodilator FEV1/FVC of< 0.7 and a FEV1> 30% pbkp_redicted (www. goldcopd. org). Exhaled breath samples were taken at baseline (T1), within 48 hours after diagnosis of an exacerbation (T2) and 8 weeks after exacerbation (T3). An exacerbation was defined as an event in the natural course of the disease characterized by a change in patient's baseline dyspnea, cough and/or sputum beyond day-to-day variability, sufficient to warrant a change in management, other than optimizing …
