Behavior characterization of members of the specialized units of the national police of Ecuador in situations of conflict


Abstract:

This research focuses in the behavior characterization of members of specialized units (Criminalistics and Antinarcotics) of the National Police of Ecuador in situations of conflict. The results reveal that the agents have negative affectations in the dimensions: Psychological demands, Uncertainty, Social support, Double presence and Esteem. Moreover, it is concluded that the strategies used by agents in stressful situations are inadequate. However, positive results are evident in the dimensions of: Active work and Development opportunities, as well as in agents’ health. In addition, the results show that despite high levels of exposure to psychosocial risks, specialized agents do not intend to quit their job. Finally, a significant relationship between psychosocial risks and coping strategies was found.
