Binder jetting

Abstract:

Among the additive manufacturing technologies, systems based on the Binder Jetting/Inkjet Powder Printing technique are the ones that most resemble the 2D printing process, which is why they were initially called three-dimensional printing (3DP). The multicolor printing capability, very similar to a 3D picture, is one of the great advantages of the process, making it attractive for a series of applications for visualizing concepts. Different equipment can be used to build parts in ceramics, metal, and polymers. Regarding the latter, there is a need for further development in research, as well as in the range of materials used. Extrusion-based 3D printing was greatly benefitted when some of its key patents expired, and a similar scenario could help Binder Jetting overcoming limitations such as low mechanical strength and the strong dependence on postprocessing.
