A phase-field-lattice Boltzmann method for predicting dendritic growth and motion in solidification of binary alloys

Abstract:

1. Introduction Solidification playsan importantrole forthe formationof microstructures of metals and alloys. It occurs once nucleation hasstarted and itexpands bythe movement of a liquid-solidinterface. Generally, the movement of the interlaceisunstable and under appropriate circumstances tree-[ikestructures called dendritesare formed. Despite of the complexity of dendriticsolidification, some numerical methods have been developed to efectively capture phase transformation, The most common approaches are the frent tracking method(FTM)[1], the level-setmethod (LSM)[2] and the phase-fieldmethod(PFM)[3, 4]. Meltconvection isalso importantinsoiidificationsince italters the patternformation on crystal growth. Numerically, itseffects have beenstudied by considering the melt as an incompressiblefiuidflow
