Abstract:

Adolescence is probably the period in which the body image has a greater impact on the subjects' experiences, being a phase so complex by the biopsychosocial conflicts that accompany it, considering that it is inhabited in a superficial world under the influence of demanding canons of beauty and physical attractiveness. In Cuenca-Ecuador, a quantitative, descriptive study was conducted to determine the degree of body dissatisfaction experienced by adolescents. The sample of the study was formed by 90 adolescents, divided between 61 women and 29 men; First-year students of the" Herlinda Toral" High School, to whom the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) test was applied, and through which it was concluded that 50% of the adolescents who participated in the study, Presented a" Moderate" level of body dissatisfaction, and 4% of them showed" Absence" of body dissatisfaction. Likewise, the dimension of body dissatisfaction with the highest figures was:" Concern for the unsightly aspects of obesity; The dimension with the lowest figures was:" Use of vomiting or laxatives to reduce body dissatisfaction".
