Bolivian phlebotomines : Description of four new species of Lutzomyia (Diptera : Psychodidae)
Abstract:
Four new species of sandfly are described. Lutzomyia suapienxis, sp. n., L. tihuiliensis, sp. n. and L. tocaniensis, sp. n. are described on female specimens only. They are closely related to L. pia and belong, like it, to the Pifanomyia subgenus which is of major epidemiological importance in the subandean areas. The three species are anthropophilic. The morphological discriminative analysis provides arguments to separate the different species and to include them in the subgenus Pifanomyia. Lutzomyia toroensis sp. n. is described on both male and female specimens. It is closely related to the Peruvian L. oligodonta Young et al. These two species cannot be classified in any subgenus or species group. They constitute a new "natural group" of sandflies from south western part of South America.
