Burnout y afrontamiento en docentes universitarios de Ecuador, 2020


Abstract:

The objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between the dimensions of burnout and the coping styles of the teachers of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences of the University of Guayaquil in the academic period May-October 2020. The study was non-experimental of a quantitative type; correlational scope and cross-sectional; where a questionnaire containing the Maslach Burnout Inventory scale; version in Spanish; was applied to measure the degree of burnout and the inventory of coping with stressful situations. Among the findings; the factorial structure of the scales used as well as their reliability in the studied sample is confirmed in the first place. It was also verified the research hypothesis determining that 86% of the teachers present a medium-high level of Burnout. Regarding both emotional and avoidant coping styles; these are related to the degree of prevalence of the syndrome with p< 0.05 (p= 0.000 and p= 0.007 respectively). In conclusion; the teachers of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences of the University of Guayaquil; are burned in a medium and high degree; and must make use of coping strategies according to the levels of emotional exhaustion; professional self-esteem and depersonalization.
