CHAPTER TEN POWER RELATIONS AND STRUGGLES WITHIN INDIGENOUS CHURCHES
Abstract:
Background Ecuador is an Andean country with a population of 14,306,876 inhabitants, according to the recent 2010 census. Population data compiled during this census indicates that Indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorian populations have grown. There are 1,018,176 Indigenous people, an increase from 2001. Afro-Ecuadorians, in turn, make up 1,041,559 people, which amounts to 437,550 more than in the population count of 2001. Chimborazo, one of Ecuador’s twenty-four provinces, is situated in the central part of the country’s inter-Andean valley.
