COMPARISON BETWEEN BOTULINUM TOXIN TYPE A AND OCCLUSAL FERULES FOR THE TREATMENT OF BRUXISTS. LITERATURE REVIEW
Abstract:
Bruxism is considered a condition of high concern for the dental professional since if it is not treated in time it can cause alterations and physical disorders of the person who suffers it such as headaches and myofascial pain, so it is necessary to application of specific and personalized treatments for patients suffering from this disease. Objective: To identify the effectiveness of the use of occlusal splints and botulinum toxin type A in young adult patients, through a complete bibliographic review that allows analyzing the efficacy of these treatments. Methods: This research is of a descriptive type that presents a cross-section, in which articles and scientific investigations that have been indexed in scientific databases such as Pubmed, Elsevier, Scopus and Google Scholar from January 2017 to January 2021 in Spanish, English and Portuguese were reviewed. The review focused on dental treatments to combat bruxism from TB-A inoculations in young adults. Results: A total of 4826 were reviewed to which inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to select 17 articles that frame the study problem as a central theme. The most relevant points were taken, as well as their main results to determine the efficiency of treatments with TB-A and occlusal splints in patients with bruxism. Conclusions: Based on the review carried out, treatments with TB-A and occlusal splints, to reduce bruxism, are efficient and it is majority they do not show any kind of adverse results, constituting one of the main options to treat said disease.
