CONSIDERATION IN PROMOTING SOFTWARE INDUSTRY: A CASE OF ECUADOR

Abstract:

Most well-known software industry (SI) globally are from USA. Among 10 top software companies in 2011 according to PWC (2013), 8 of them are from USA. Two others are from Germany and Sweden. Among 15 the largest Information Technology (IT) companies over the world according to PWC (2013), 8 are located in USA. It’s very obvious that software and IT markets are dominated by USA products. Everybody knows Microsoft, Oracle, Symantec, Adobe, Apple, HP, IBM, etc. They are few examples of USA companies on software and IT products. However, new players on SI are from developing countries. The most cited countries are India, China, and Brazil. Ecuador hasn’t yet belong to new emerges software producer. However, Ecuador government is seeking for another source of economic driver and SI came to surface. Expectation for SI sector to be one of economy driver is not without strong background.
