COORDINATED TREATMENT OF DEPRESSION IN ELDERLY PEOPLE IN PRIMARY CARE
Abstract:
Introduction: Primary care physicians primarily treat depression in the elderly; treatment is often suboptimal due to the limited resources available in primary care. Objective: To determine the superiority of a model over the usual form of treatment by a primary care physician. Methods: In this controlled, open-label study, primary care patients aged 60 years or older with moderate depressive manifestations were included. Results: 71 primary care physicians enrolled 248 patients in the study, of whom 109 were in the control group and 139 in the intervention group. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the superiority of the new model of care in the primary care setting.
