COVID-19. Demography and Health of the Ecuadorian Population

Abstract:

This article analyzes the vulnerability of the Ecuadorian population to COVID-19 in terms of five factors: population structure by age, morbidity and mortality, economic and social vulnerability, household size and overcrowding; and availability of health resources. The study is conducted at national and provincial level, finding that the economic and educational inequalities are reflected in the conditions of poverty, the household size and the existing overcrowding, the presence of infectious and non-infectious diseases, and a health system where enabled physical structures are limited and differentiated, all this makes the Ecuadorian population vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic.
