A reinterpretation of the nature of the Fermi hole

Abstract:

A reinterpretation of the Boyd-Coulson definition of the Fermi hole in order to remove from it the reference to a hypothetical Hartree state was proposed. The main result was to establish the essentially common nature of the seemingly disparate definitions of the Fermi hole, one given in terms of the conditional probability and the other, on the difference between intracule densities. This synthesis was achieved through a reinterpretation of the Fermi hole as the volume around a test electron from where charge was displaced due to the presence of other electrons with the same spin.
