Calidad de vida en los cuidadores de adultos mayores residentes en centros geriátricos en Cuenca

Abstract:

The adulthood is a stage of changes where there are major limitations; due to this, they need a caregiver for assistance in basic activities, who by their work are exposed to factors that influence the quality of life; that is, in the perception of the individual by his position in life according to the system of values, culture and in relation to his objectives and expectations. Therefore, the general objective of the study was to describe the level of quality of life of caregivers of elderly people living in geriatric centers of Cuenca and the specific objectives: to identify the level of quality of life in caregivers of older adults according to sociodemographic characteristics and determine the domain of quality of life that is most affected in these people. The research was developed with a focus on quantitative research, non-experimental design and descriptive scope. For the collection of data, a sociodemographic record and the WHOQOL BREF scale were used to measure the quality of life variable at a general level and in four domains: physical, psychological, social and environmental to a population of 48 formal caregivers. The analysis was performed using descriptive statistics with measures of central tendency. The results indicated that the perception of quality of life at a general level and of well-being with their health is positive, the domain least affected is the psychological, the most affected is the environment. Regarding the identification of sociodemographic characteristics, it was found that young adults who have a partner and support from someone, have a better psychological domain. It is concluded that the secondary or formal caregivers present an adequate level of quality of life, most were women who had the support of someone, and in terms of sociodemographic characteristics is a relationship with several of them that intervene in the perception of positive as negative form of the different domains.
