A scheme for updating the competency ontologies based on natural language processing and semantic mining

Abstract:

This work presents a scheme for updating the professional and academic competences from profiles obtained from the Web, based on ontologies. First are recognized the terms through linguistic patterns. Then, the terms are aligned with thesauri, through measures of relevance and lexical and semantic similarity. Finally, the aligned terms populate the ontology. The case study is in Computer Science, using the DISCO and BLOOM thesauri. The quality of the ontology is evaluated using the measures of completeness and robustness, which reflect high values in the experiments carried out.
