Características de depresión en la población LGBTI de la ciudad de Cuenca 2017


Abstract:

Background: Depression is a very prevalent disease, it is said that an average of 300 million people suffer from it (1), it represents a great investment for the health system, it has seen an increase in the pathology in minority groups of the population, such as is the LGBTI population of the city of Cuenca. General Objective: Determine the characteristics of depression in the LGBTI population of the city of Cuenca. 2017 Methodology and Materials: Descriptive study in 93 people identified within the LGBTI population of the city of Cuenca. The Hamilton Test was applied to assess depression. In addition to a survey to demographically classify the population. The information was entered into Microsoft Excel 2016 and IBM SPSS Stadistics for its process and analysis. The variables are presented in tables. Statistical analysis was performed using absolute and relative frequency measurements (percentages) for qualitative variables and measures of central tendency (mean) for quantitative variables. Results: 59.14% refer that is male according to their biological sex, 39.79% are women and 1.07% are intersexual, the most frequent age group was 18-27 years with 79.56%, the most representative sexual orientation were homosexuals with 68.9%, in the variable of sexual identity, cisgender occupied 90.32%.. It is striking that 64.6% present some degree of depression and 19.4% present moderate and severe depression, 10.8% present very severe depression. 71% have suffered homophobia and discrimination, 30.1% have been victims of violence and 73.1% have suffered harassment because of their orientation / sexual identity. 23.7% have tried to take their own lives. Conclusion: More than half of the studied population is depressed, of them a third part at the moment presents severe or very severe depression, which implies problems of self-esteem that can lead to the suicidal attempt.
