Características de la dismenorrea en adolescentes del ciclo diversificado de los colegios República de Ecuador, República de Israel de la ciudad de Cuenca, 2011

Abstract:

Antecedents Dysmenorrhea is the pain associated with menstrual cycle. It has a prevalence between 20 and 97% mainly affects adolescent girls. In our country there are few prevalence studies on this subject, which very few women consult, so we put emphasis on identifying the prevalence and characteristics of dysmenorrhea in adolescents of the schools Republic of Ecuador Republic of Israel from Cuenca, 2011. Methods This is a descriptive studywasbased onan anonymous questionnaireappliedto 408studentsin classesofhigh schools before mentioned.Data were evaluatedin order toknow the characteristicsofdysmenorrheain adolescents.The datawere analyzed usingstatistical tests ofthe type ofvariables. Results The ages of the respondents range from 15 to 21 years old, according to the average age of onset of menarche is 12.78 years, representing 30.4% of the total study sample. In 77.9% of adolescents presented dysmenorrhea, 29.6% has it for 1 year. 38.1%. In the annoyances begin on the day of menstruation. As the intensity of pain 56.3% reported that the pain is moderate, being more frequent at the belly as it occurs in 92.1% of cases. The most common additional symptoms were headache 31.1%, 28.3% muscle weakness, abdominal distension 25.22%. 81.4% use some type of medication, of which 58.8% use anti-inflammatory, a 41.13% reported some relief with the use of them. While 21.4% engage in physical exercise as an additional measure. The 56.9% of teens surveyed have to stop doing their daily activities due to menstrual pain. The academic activity is rarely affected in 45.6% of cases.
