Características de las quemaduras de los pacientes hospitalizados en el Hospital "Vicente Corral Moscoso" 2005-2009, Cuenca-Ecuador
Abstract:
OBJETIVE.- To know the characteristic of the burns presented by hospitalized patients in Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, from January 1, 2005 until December 31, 2009, in terms of causes, extent and depth. MATERIAL AND METHODS.- A quantitative, descriptive and retrospective study which was performed in all the services of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, with exception of pediatrics , through information from medical records from January 1, 2005 until 31 December 2009. RESULTS.- The characteristics of burns and their relationship to the patient’s personal data were established. The prevalence was higher in the following groups: 79% were male, 24% with age between 19 – 25 years, 59.05% lived in rural residence, 39.79% were married, 31.50% were laborers and 77.33% had a favorable outcome. It should be noted that no medical records stated whether there was empirical therapy prior to hospitalization or not. CONCLUSION.- With respect to statistics, there are three relevant points to the effective formulation of preventive measures that should be disseminated and inculcated in society. “The most common cause of burns (43.02%) is electricity” “The age with the highest incidence of burns is 19 to 24 year old” “Burns would be drastically reduced if people knew about prevention measures, because the burns are preventable pathologies DeCS: Burns, Epidemiology, Descriptive, Inpatients, Regional Hospital, Cuenca – Ecuador
