Cardiometabolic changes in workers in the health area: Role of sleep disruption
Abstract:
The health worker has a great responsibility in relation to the care of their patients, however, several studies have determined that this population of workers is subject to a deterioration of their own health due to factors that correspond to the work activities they must perform, it is common for these staff to work by performing shifts that can be both day and night so in the first place is not maintained proper sleep hygiene and second begins the process of disruption of the same, which has been closely related to Metabolic changes that make these individuals prone to develop pathologies that increase cardiovascular risk, changes in insulin sensitivity, increase in body weight, elevation of blood pressure levels and endothelial changes characteristic of atherosclerotic disease have been reported. Mode population studies have found association between short and long sleep in these metabolic changes, however, the most consistent relationship has been that of decreased sleep hours. For this reason, it is essential to conduct studies focused on determining the level of influence that sleep disruption has on metabolic changes in health worker, in order to establish prevention programs and decrease cardiovascular risk in these individuals.
